Speaking to the press in Berlin, on Friday, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier confirmed 6 people have died in the attack on Thursday evening on Germany’s consulate in the Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif.
Steinmeier said, "I'm relieved that all the members of the General Consulate, German and Afghan, are still safe and unharmed, but for those who have seen the images of the destruction, the results of the explosives, would hardly be surprised by this sad news that people have died as well and many have been injured."
The Taliban declared the attack comes as a response to US air strikes this month in Kunduz. The Germans and Afghans are working together and have already arrested one suspect, Saied Sadat, on Friday morning.
