Some 200 protesters gathered in Wenceslas Square in central Prague, Saturday, to attend a rally organised by the Freedom and Direct Democracy Eurosceptic party (SPD), against the European migration policy and the perceived ‘Islamisation’ of Europe.
The leader of the party Tomio Okamura addressed to the crowd as well as a number of speakers from various Eurosceptic parties, including the Front National's adviser for European Affairs Ludovic de Danne and the independent MEP and former UKIP representative Janice Atkinson.
Speaking to the crowd de Danne bemoaned that European governments are “no longer able to protect not their own borders from mass immigration.” His sentiment was echoed by Atkinson, who said “EU has opened the Pandora's Box; Angela Merkel has invited millions of migrants into our countries.”
The rally coincided with the anniversary of the birth of Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV, who was born on May 14 1316. Charles IV was the first King of Bohemia, the kingdom that comprised much of modern Czech Republic, to also become Holy Roman Emperor.
