Hungary: Protesters rally against planned restrictive measures on NGOs

30.05.2017
Scores of activists rallied in Budapest, Monday, to protest against a draft law that will tighten controls on NGOs and civil society groups.
Organised by an alliance of NGOs calls “Civilisation Group”, the rally condemned Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his government’s proposition, which will reportedly label organisations receiving foreign funding as “foreign-backed”.
The measures are expected to come following the Amendment of the Higher Education Act which placed tougher restrictions on foreign-backed universities, as well as a series of measures imposing tighter controls on asylum seekers.
