A group of Syrian refugees staged a symbolic protest in the makeshift refugee camp on the border between Greece and Macedonia near Idomeni, Saturday, in support of the people of Aleppo amid an upsurge in violence in the city between the Syrian Army and opposition forces.
The symbolic protest saw one refugee lie on the ground, while others covered him with a blanket with the word "Aleppo" written over it, to parallel the covering of a deceased person. Another refugee was seen writing "Save Aleppo" on a road sign, before the protesters got together for a joint prayer.
Footage emerging from the camp also showed refugees receiving firewoods, following recent intermittent bouts of rainfall.
A reported 10,000 refugees are stranded at the Idomeni camp, on the border between Greece and Macedonia. Greek officials have reportedly distributed leaflets over the past couple of days, urging the residents to abandon the camp and head towards Thessaloniki, where they will be transferred to the new refugee hotspots.
