Germany: Thousands gather in Berlin to protest against asylum policy plans

18.04.2015
Around 3,500 people gathered at Oranienplatz in Berlin to protest against the tightening of laws related to the right of residence for asylum seekers in Germany, Saturday. They were supported by famous German singer Peter Fox, who performed a concert, along with other artists. The protest, called 'Beats against Racism,' was organised by several groups and political parties. People were holding banners with messages with 'no human is illegal' and 'refugees welcome.' Almost a year ago, police removed a refugee camp from Oranienplatz, which had been there for several months. In March this year, an asylum art project named 'house of the 28 doors' on the square was set on fire, which was considered by the police as an act of arson.
