US Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen appeared alongside former Federal Reserve Chairs Ben Bernanke, Paul Volcker and Alan Greenspan at the International House in New York, Thursday, to discuss the US economy and monetary policy.
The four US central bank heads appeared for the first time together on a panel with CNN's Fareed Zakaria. Yellen, Bernanke and Volcker appeared in person, while Alan Greenspan joined the conversation via videolink.
They addressed a young audience including many students, on topics ranging from the independence of the central bank and the role of monetary policy world-wide to whether the US is a 'bubble-economy' which was denied by both Janet Yellen and Paul Volcker.
Paul Volcker was the twelfth Chairman of the Federal Reserve, serving from 1979 to 1987, during the US stagflation crisis before being replaced by Alan Greenspan. Greenspan took over in 1987 and remained the head of the US Central Bank until 2006, when he was replaced by Ben Bernanke. Bernanke, who led the US FED during the financial crises of the 2000s was replaced by the current Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen in 2014.
