Greek authorities began preparations for the shutting down of Idomeni refugee camp, on Monday. Police buses and coaches were visible on the camp's periphery, ahead of Tuesday's planned evacuation of the 12,000 refugees who are currently stranded in Idomeni.
Up to ten police squads have arrived from both Athens and Thessaloniki, setting up two checkpoints: one 20 kilometres (12 miles) from the camp, with a second installed just 2 kilometres (1,2 miles) from Idomeni. Only registered members of NGOs or journalists can pass are being allowed to pass the checkpoints.
Several coaches have already begun taking refugees to a hotspot close to Thessaloniki, in a facility that can host 6,000 people.
