UK: Anti-frackers rally in Blackpool as energy firm appeals Lancashire fracking refusal

Scores of anti-fracking protesters rallied in Blackpool, Tuesday, after energy firm Cuadrilla’s appealed against Lancashire City Council’s decision to refuse the company rights to extract shale gas from the Little Plumpton and Roseacre Wood sites.
The protest was held outside the conference suite of Blackpool Football Club. Inside representatives from Cuadrilla were meeting with local councillors in a bid to get them to reverse their decision to reject both planning applications. The ruling was made last year on the grounds that the extraction process would significantly contribute to noise pollution and traffic congestion in the area.
A 'Friends of the Earth' campaigner who was present at the rally stated that "We're here today to say that fracking is not the right answer for the UK's energy problems, it’s not wanted by the people in Lancashire, it’s not wanted by the people anywhere in the UK.”
