France: Police unleash tear gas on anti-labour reform protesters in Paris

29.04.2016
Police unleashed tear gas and pepper spray on protesters in Paris, Thursday, as trade unions and students gathered to demonstrate against the proposed labour reforms put forward by the government.
In response, protesters set up burning barricades and threw missiles at police. Clashes broke out at protests across France on Thursday, with more than 100 protesters detained nationwide and at least 24 police officers injured.
Protests have gripped France over the last month in reaction to the government's planned labour law reforms, commonly referred to as the 'El Khomri law' after French Labour Minister Myriam El Khomri. The reforms will look at almost all aspects of France's labour laws; maximum working hours, holidays and breaks are some of the areas that will be open to negotiation as the government attempts to liberalise France's labour market.
