16.11.2016
Dozens of people marched in protest after members of the far-right party Golden Dawn visited Mytillini, Lesbos, Wednesday.
Protesters marched to the hotel in the centre of the Island's capital, Mytillini, where the politicians and their supporters are staying, but were blocked from going further by police officers.
Members of Greece's far-right Golden Dawn party, Yiannis Lagos and Alexandros Kasidiaris made a trip to the Greek Island in order to engage with the refugee crisis on-the-ground. Also visiting was Filip Dewinter, a leading member of the right-wing Flemish nationalist party in Belgium, Vlaams Belang.
The southern Greek islands, including Lesbos, are one of the main entry points into the European Union for refugees from the Middle East and Africa who are fleeing violence, war and poverty. Around 15,000 refugees and migrants currently live at the site in Moria.
