Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Russia’s World-Championship winning 'Bandy' (or 'Russian Hockey') team at his Novo-Ogaryovo country residence on Thursday
The Russians powered their way to victory at the tournament on home ice in Ulyanovsk, earning the president’s admiration who said it “was really convincing, you beat the Finns 6 – 1 [in the final]."
Putin, who has tried his hand at ice hockey in the past, said “if we pay attention to ice hockey, how can we not pay attention to Russian Hockey?.”
He noted the improvement, saying: “there was a period when our team could not win for several years. And now it is for the fourth time in a row, it is certainly a great success."
At the end of the meeting President Putin was presented with a Bandy stick and ball.
