Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Moscow is being unfairly blamed for creating the European refugee crisis, during an interview with REN-TV in Moscow on Sunday.
"We work in Syria following an invitation from the legitimate government. Before that it was bombed and torn to pieces by anyone who want to, in contravention to the UN Charter," he said.
"And this was acceptable for everybody, although no one saw the amount of refugees eventually coming to Europe. Now, this blame is once again placed on us," he added.
Lavrov further said that the EU and NATO has become dominated by eastern European countries with a 'Russophobe' mentality.
