Russia's Siberia is known for the cold and unrelenting taiga but one area in the Republic of Sakha is also recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, or UNESCO, as a world heritage site. The Lena Pillars Natural Park has been a world heritage site since 2012, but a recent meeting of UNESCO approved the addition of the magnificent Sinsky Pillars, seen here by drone, to the Lena Pillars Natural Park area, which now covers some 5,321 square miles, or nearly 1.4 million hectares.
