Protesters gathered in Suedpark in Halle on Sunday, to stand up against right-wing groups repeatedly staging marches in the German town.
Organisers of the weekly right-wing Monday marches, Donatus Schmidt und Sven Liebich, stated on social media that they wanted to meet in Suedpark to make an announcement. This statement was reportedly connected to Schmidt, Liebich and their supporters wanting to “take back the streets".
Other Halle residents felt concerned that the influence of right-wing supporters is spreading to Suedpark and could lead to an escalation. They organised a protest under the banner of “Halle gegen Rechts” (Halle against right-wingers) to stand up against the right-wing movement in the town.
Protesters took park in a group bike ride and later listened to speeches and music at Suedpark. There was a heavy police presence, but no escalation was reported.
