Slovenia: Croatia not helping to manage refugee influx - Interior Ministry

19.10.2015
State Secretary of the Interior Ministry Bostjan Sefic spoke during a press conference in Ljubljana on the recent developments in the arrival of refugees and migrants to Slovenia from Croatia, Monday. "Things got complicated", said Sefic, “when the Republic of Croatia announced, or demanded, significantly higher numbers of migrants to be received by Slovenia," something that Slovenian authorities did not approve "for the simple reason that the daily quota had already been exceeded." Since then, he added, "our communications with our colleagues from Croatia was more or less interrupted; we did not receive any response from them." Croatia is now directing refugees into neighbouring Slovenia after Hungary closed its border with Croatia to prevent refugees and migrants from traveling northwards though the central European country. After the change of the refugees’ route across Europe, some 5,000 migrants reached Slovenia on Monday from Croatia, with another 1,200 reportedly on their way by train. The Slovenian Interior Ministry is now accusing Croatia of ignoring efforts to contain the flow.
