An Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) SUV belonging to the body's Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM) motorcade collided with a Ukrainian armoured personnel carrier in the vicinity of Kiev-controlled Avdeyevka on Thursday, said OSCE Special Monitoring Mission Principal Deputy Chief Monitor Alexander Hug at a press conference in Donetsk.
Hug stressed that it was a “minor traffic accident” and the SMM vehicle had sustained “damage on the left rear side” but it was “completely drivable”. He went on to say that “it’s up for insurance company and the police to figure out the aftermath” of the accident.
The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM) was deployed on 21 March 2014, following a request to the OSCE by Ukraine’s government and a consensus decision by all 57 OSCE participating States. The SMM is an unarmed, civilian mission, present on the ground 24/7 in all regions of Ukraine. Its main tasks are to observe and report in an impartial and objective way on the situation in Ukraine; and to facilitate dialogue among all parties to the crisis.
