Residents of Vienna responded to mayor of Neustadt Klaus Schneeberger's open letter demanding to remove Turkish flags from Vienna's public spaces on Thursday.
The letter was reportedly addressed to Turkish associations, calling on them to invite their members to do the same and remove flags from windows in residential houses and from their cars in response to the recent political developments in the country and the policies Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
One resident agreed with the letter stating "I don't think it's good [to hang Turkish flags] because we live here and I don't think that's right," while another resident opposed the mayor's demand, pointing out "I think that everyone should be allowed to do what they want. Whoever wants to hang an Australian flag should do that whoever wants to hang an Austrian flag should do that whoever wants to hang a Turkish flag should do that as long as someone isn't harassing anyone."
