SOT, Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager: “So a penalty under pressure is not easy, all the players who try, it’s incredible news. Finally we [missed] four penalties in a row, five out of six or seven, so it’s good for us to score this evening.”

SOT, Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager: “Come back in this demanding game, it’s a pity because we dream of being with him [Laporte] until this end but unfortunately we suffered a lot this season in this department but with John, with Eric, with Nico and Fernandinho, we’ll go through.”

SOT, Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager: "We can’t control what’s off the pitch, only on the pitch, we want to do it. Last season we were outstanding, we were up for the Champions League but we compete really well, so I removed at Anfield we were playing incredible in the first minutes, but three shots on target and you concede three goals. Last season at Tottenham we were good there, we miss a penalty, one shot on target and we concede in the last minute. So this completion is special for that.”

SOT, Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager: “I want to be honest, it’s not easy for our club to live [through] that [UEFA ban], also surrounded by opinions, but like yesterday I said, I’m so confident that everything is going to go well, the only thing we can do is play well and win games.”

SOT, Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager: “Hopefully the board, the lawyers and the rest can convince UEFA that we did the right things and not the wrong things.”

SOT, Zinedine Zidane, Real Madrid manager (Spanish): “A bad impression because in the end because in games like this it’s hard knowing you played well and still lose in this way - not everything is bad.”

SOT, Zinedine Zidane, Real Madrid manager (Spanish): “He [the ref] told me he didn’t see anything, didn’t see a push like others have said but in the end, it doesn’t change anything. He’s the ref, he decided that and that’s it.”

SOT, Zinedine Zidane, Real Madrid manager (Spanish): “Yes, it’s the same, you know, today we were trying to win and in the return leg, as we lost today, we will have to win. The only thing is now we know the situation. We had a chance here today but we have another chance to change the game so we need know we need to go and win. On Sunday we have another opportunity [in El Clasico].”

Two late goals saw Manchester City defeat Real Madrid in their Champions League first leg tie at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.
Real took the lead through Isco but City fought back thanks to a Gabriel Jesus strike before Kevin de Bruyne tucked away an 83rd minute penalty.
The result is a huge boost for Pep Guardiola's side in the face of a ban on their participation in UEFA competitions and he hailed de Bruyne for his calmness from the spot.
"A penalty under pressure is not easy, all the players who try, it’s incredible news. Finally we [missed] four penalties in a row, five out of six or seven, so it’s good for us to score this evening," he said.
Despite the result and performance, Guardiola will be hoping an injury sustained by defensive lynchpin Aymeric Laporte won't be too serious after the Frenchman was forced off, adding to his injury woes this season.
Zidane on the other hand will be ruing what could have been a famous win. A string of poor results have piled pressure on Real Madrid ahead of this Sunday's Clasico against Barcelona.
"We had a chance here today but we have another chance to change the game so we need know we need to go and win. On Sunday we have another opportunity," he said.
