Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Istanbul, Monday, following the launch of the World Humanitarian Summit (WHS).
The leaders held the meeting to discuss the process of the EU-Turkey agreement, signed on March 18, which would permit the European Union to return refugees to Turkey in exchange for stepping up the process of visa liberalisation for Turkish citizens seeking to visit the EU.
Their meeting was held on the side-lines of the World Humanitarian Summit, in which 125 of the UN's 193 member states are participating. The event, which takes place over two days, entails seven round table meetings and 15 sessions to discuss humanitarian solutions to global issues.
