Director General of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) Yury Ganus addressed the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) decision not to reinstate the suspension of RUSADA after missing its 31 December 2018 deadline to allow WADA to access its labs, speaking from Moscow on Tuesday.
"I want to congratulate our athletes, our authorities and all those who are engaged in supporting our sport on that we really moved away from the edge even if it is temporary," Ganus said.
He added: "our commitments related to the compliance with the second stage which were determined by the WADA Executive Committee on September 20 remain to be fulfilled."
Ganus also reiterated that "RUSADA, in fact, retains its compliance," and stressed that "Russia continues to host international competitions and the Russian representatives have the right to participate in the management of the international sport organizations."
WADA's decision was announced during an Executive Board's extraordinary session.
The WADA Executive Commission had reinstated RUSADA on September 20, 2018 after an almost three-year suspension.
The decision required that RUSADA provide WADA access to the data on the Moscow laboratory by December 31, 2018.
