Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada has ratified an agreement with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on the establishment of a 'NATO embassy' in Kiev, Thursday.
The agreement to establish a NATO embassy in Ukraine was voted for by 251 MPs, requiring at least 226 votes to pass. Only seven MPs voted against the bill, with 13 abstaining. This follows the Ukrainian parliament's failure to ratify the deal on Wednesday, with the session immediately suspended and another vote tabled.
The agreement, Bill No. 0082, stipulates the establishment of a NATO representative office in Kiev, which will include a NATO communications office and a centre for information and documentation. The NATO office aims to enhance and expand Ukraine's cooperation with NATO and will enjoy the privileges and immunities of diplomatic missions in Ukraine.
