Russian computer science developers presented Neurochat, what could potentially be a social network that uses brain waves to help people with impaired movement and speech communicate online, in Moscow, Friday.
The project is joint enterprise between the Moscow State University and the Neurotrend Company. Head of the Laboratory of Neurophysiology and Neuro-computing Technology at the university, Alexander Kaplan, explained that the project is based on “neural interface technology. That means that we will create a translation of the person's intentions and mental effort so as to control external executive devices."
Kaplan hopes that the technology will lead to users to “understand each other better,” adding “They may help each other morally. And in the end, if a person begins to use such a network, it can help them get a job. They can translate something, for example. This is an attempt to include a person in the society as much as possible."
