Physicists and technicians from Tomsk State University demonstrated their newly developed experimental ceramic on Wednesday, that is specially designed to resist extreme temperatures as high as 2,000 degrees Celsius (3,632 degrees Fahrenheit).
The brand new ceramic was jointly created by scientists from the university and the Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science (ISPMS). Head of laboratory at the Institute Sergei Kulkov explained the idea behind the experiment: "The idea is that if the material has to work under some extreme conditions, then it must be created under these extreme conditions".
Kulkov stated that the ceramics will be used in the "aerospace industry as well as rocket and missile engineering".
The scientists are planning to test their development at the Roscosmos State Corporation and finish all the work on the heat-resistant ceramics by December.
