SOT, Italian mother: "I think it's a shame. Because I'm fine with everything, I'm not against anyone, but as there are immigrants struggling, there are also Italians struggling."
SOT, Journalist: "It's not discriminatory for kids, to let them eat in a different area?"
SOT, Italian mother: "Yes of course, but there are also Italian kids who are struggling."
SOT, Journalist: "But for immigrants to find the required papers it's a bit complicated." SOT, Woman: "Also for us it's complicated to find these kind of documents. But somehow we manage to find them."
SOT, Journalist: "So you're in favour of this law approved by the mayor?"
SOT, Italian mother: "Yes of course."
Migrant children were readmitted to their school canteen in the Italian city of Lodi on Tuesday, after a controversial regulation from the city council sparked outrage for separating them from Italian pupils.
The city regulation required that migrant parents submit documentation from their country of origin regarding their income and wealth, as part of means-tested benefits for discounts on canteen and school-bus services.
In the past weeks, migrant parents resorted to packed lunches from home, as a consequence of the ban.
Despite the negative publicity to the city, some local residents were happy with the discriminatory regulation.
