19.11.2015
Clashes erupted after thousands of people took to the streets of Port-au-Prince, Wednesday, denouncing the country's preliminary presidential results. The protest started at St. Jean Bosco church, went through the slum area Bel-air and all the way to Petionville. The demonstration was initially due to end at Champ de Mars, however as the it moved closer to the CEP office (provisional electoral council), violent clashes broke out. Haitian police fired tear gas and rubber bullets, injuring several protesters. Demonstrators chanted, "We did not vote for Jovenel Moise, he has to be kicked out", claiming that he is involved in fraud scandals. The results showed that government-backed presidential candidate Jovenel Moise, who won the most votes, was likely to go up against opposition candidate Jude Celestin in the runoff.
