At least 35 people were killed and more than 40 injured in twin explosions in Tartous, Monday, with more casualties in other attacks in Homs, Damascus and Hasaka.
According to local media, both blasts occurred on the Arzuna Bridge, the first from a car bomb, followed by a second blast from a suicide bomber, who detonated his explosive belt as people gathered to help the wounded from the first blast.
Three more explosions hit other government-controlled areas in Homs and a suburbs of Damascus, as well as the Kurdish-held city of Hasaka. Local media reported that eight people were killed and two injured in a blast caused by an explosives-packed motorcycle in Hasaka.
The self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) claimed responsibility for the attacks.
