Hundreds of people participated in a ceremony Friday, laying flowers at the Arlington National Cemetery in Washington to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of D-Day. Russia's Ambassador to the United States, Sergei Ivanovich Kislyak, along with Soviet veterans, participated in honour of the 70th anniversary of the allied victory in WWII. The Russian Embassy in the US has prepared a remembrance ceremony where some 5,000 medals commemorating the event are to be presented to veterans. Volunteers from the 'Russian-American Community Centre' of Florida, who travelled through the state of Washington by motorcade, are also expected to attend the commemoration in the capital's Russian embassy. Soviet and American troops joined together on the river Elbe 70 years ago in what would be a turning point in World War II. Within weeks the war was over and victory over the Nazi's achieved.
