Thousands of protesters hit the streets of Beirut, Saturday, calling for a sustainable solution to Lebanon's garbage crisis and the resignation of Environment Minister Mohammad Machnouk. The protesters organised by Lebanon's 'You Stink' movement gathered in Beirut's Martyr's Square and chanted against the government's handling of the crisis, including calling for the "downfall of the regime," a chant made popular in the so-called 'Arab Spring' protests that swept the region four years ago. Tens of thousands of tonnes of rubbish has been piling up on Beirut's streets since the closure of Lebanon's Naameh landfill about three weeks ago. Lebanon's main waste-management company Sukleen then halted all garbage collection in the city, stating that there was no place to dump the waste.
