14.08.2015
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Russia’s role in the Iranian nuclear talks was largely based on “its well-defined national interests” as he addressed an audience in Moscow, Friday Ryabkov pointed out how Moscow has an “unwillingness to see a new conflict in the Middle East” but instead wishes to “normalise the situation" concerning Iran. The Deputy FM stressed that international cooperation, such as the negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program, “serves the interests of the Russian Federation." Under the current deal between Iran and the P5+1 the former will be able to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes only and in exchange significant economic sanctions against Iran have been eased. However, Israel together with its Gulf allies have been campaigning against the programme and the US Congress could theoretically still block the agreement.
