Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the permanent members of Russia's Security Council in Moscow, Tuesday, to discuss efforts to resolve the conflict in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.
The permanent members of the Security Council discussed the efforts of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev, who held negotiations on the issue in Vienna on Monday.
The meeting between the two heads of state was mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group on the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement, as well as by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, US Secretary of State John Kerry and French Foreign Minister Jean Marc Ayrault.
The long-held ceasefire operating in Nagorno-Karabakh since 1994 was violated in early April with Armenia and Azerbaijan each blaming the other for the resumption of hostilities. Shuttle diplomacy by Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev and Foreign Minister Lavrov helped lead to a cessation of hostilities.
