Protesters gathered outside the office of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo on Friday, denouncing the government’s decision to restart the reactors of the Sendai Nuclear Power Plant in the Kagoshima Prefecture.
Police were deployed to monitor the protesters as they gathered outside the government building chanting and holding banners.
The reopening of the plant is the latest in a series of demonstration against the restarting of Japanese nuclear reactors, many of which had been shut down by authorities following the March 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster.
Although local governments have consented to restarting the reactors, there have been serious concerns expressed by nearby municipalities and residents over the safety of the power plants in the case of natural disaster.
