16.10.2016
Voters began arriving at polling stations in Montenegro’s capital, Podgorica, to take part in the country’s parliamentary elections on Sunday.
A total of 17 parties and coalitions are participating in the election although another win for the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) is predicted. Voter Senad Smakovic expressed his certainty of the outcome, stating “of course, the state of Montenegro will win. I am absolutely sure about that because we have to think about our youth, our children, our posterity.”
Another voter, Nadezda Scepanovic, said her main concern was that the day passed without violence: “Let it all go peacefully and whoever wins - good luck to them. The most important thing is to be peaceful."
The polling stations opened at 7:00 CET and will close at 20:00 CET. The last election in Montenegro was in 2012.
