Armenia: Yerevan plunges into chaos as clashes erupt over besieged police station

Protesters clashed with police in Yerevan, Friday, as riot police dispersed a rally held by supporters of the armed group which besieged a police station on July 17. Explosions, fire crackers and gunshots ripped through the night, with police deploying tear gas and stun grenades against the protesters.
The demonstrators gathered at Yerevan's Freedom Square, before marching towards the police station.
The building of the Regiment of Armenian Patrol-Guard Service in the district of Yerebuni in Yerevan, was captured on July 17. A number of high-ranking officers were captured and held hostage at the same time, including local police chief, Valery Osipyan.
