Real Madrid took the top honours in European soccer, winning their 12th Champions League title and ending their five year wait for a 33rd Spanish championship.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in Cardiff as Real Madrid beat Juventus 4-1 in a memorable final full of attacking verve and brilliant goals as the Spaniards won the title for the third time in four years.

Portugal forward Ronaldo hit Real's first and third goals in a man of the match performance to become only the second man to score in three European Cup finals and take his career goal tally to 600 for club and country.

Few of those will have matched Mario Mandzukic's spectacular overhead equaliser for Juventus, which was eventually in vain for the Italian side who had the best of the first half before being swept aside in the second.

A long-range deflected effort by Casemiro and a neat finish by the irrepressible Ronaldo within four minutes effectively settled one of the most entertaining finals for years, with a late tap-in by substitute Marco Asensio adding the gloss.

The victory means Real are the first team to successfully defend the trophy in the Champions League era. AC Milan were the last team to retain Europe's top prize when they triumphed in 1989 and 1990.

Unfortunately more than a thousand Juventus fans watching the match on screens in one of Turin's main squares were injured when loud bangs created panic and mayhem.

During the second half of the match there was a sudden rush in the middle of the crowd in San Carlo square, and then a violent surge that flung people against barriers.

Many fans then began to run out of the center of the square, screaming in fear.

Back on the pitch there was consolation for Juve, Massimiliano Allegri's side became the first team to win Serie A six times in a row, they also completed the league and cup double for the third time in a row succession.

Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored a goal in each half as Manchester United outclassed Peter Bosz's Ajax Amsterdam side in Stockholm to win an emotional Europa League final 2-0 and qualify for the group stages of the Champions League.

There was silence and then applause before the game to honour the victims of the deadly attack at a pop concert in Manchester two days before the final in which 22 people died and both sides then played a final full of pride and passion at the Friends Arena.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said that the suicide bomb attack took much of the joy out of their triumph.

He said he agreed with UEFA's decision to go ahead with the game as "the world goes on, it doesn't stop".

Mourinho said the team tried their best to offer the people of the city something to be happy about. The Portuguese manager said the team wouldn't think twice about losing the Europa League if they were able to exchange that to bring back the lives which were lost at the Ariana Grande concert.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti lead Bayern Munich to their record-extending fifth consecutive Bundesliga title with games to spare.

The Bavarians have now won 27 German championships, having promised to bounce back after their Champions League exit, to Real Madrid, and German Cup semi-final defeat, to Borussia Dortmund, left their potential treble-winning season turning to a one-title affair.

The last match of the season was also a farewell for the 33-year-old defender Philipp Lahm and for Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Joy for Ancelotti did not last long however, the Italian was sacked in September a day after Bayern suffered a crushing 3-0 defeat to Paris St Germain in the Champions League.

The club issued a statement saying performances this season had failed to live up to expectations with CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge pinpointing the defeat in Paris as evidence of the team's struggles.

Ancelotti was replaced on an interim basis by Jupp Heynckes, who took charge of the club for the fourth time until the end of the season.

Chelsea won the English Premier League in Antonio Conte's first season at the helm, setting a record tally of wins with 30 victories.

Italian Conte is only the fourth manager to win the Premier League title at the first attempt, emulating his Stamford Bridge predecessors Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti as well as Manuel Pellegrini who achieved the feat with Manchester City.

Monaco claimed their first Ligue 1 title in 17 years to bring an end to Paris St Germain's four-year reign as champions of France.

Leonardo Jardim's side built their success around a devastating attack featuring French prodigy Kylian Mbappe, and the resurgent Radamel Falcao, who have been fed all season by Portugal hope Bernardo Silva and young French international Thomas Lemar.

With midfielder Fabinho and talented fullbacks Djibril Sidibe and Benjamin Mendy adding to their forward firepower, Monaco were a cut above the rest -- even PSG.
