Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sanchez said that he will respect Tuesday's Brexit vote in the House of Commons but 'deplores' the outcome, while speaking at a press conference along President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani in Strasbourg on Wednesday.
"We complain because we believe that the negotiations, which have been really hard, really difficult, really complex, had the objective of reconciling the very different interests of the 27 member states and the interests of the United Kingdom," he said.
Sanchez went on to say that he firmly believes the agreement represents the best possible deal available to both the EU and the UK.
He also warned that it is now up to the UK government to inform the 27 member states of the next steps it intends to take, urging his British counterpart to cooperate.
UK Prime Minister Theresa May is facing a vote of no confidence on Wednesday, after her withdrawal deal was rejected by MPs in a historic vote at the Commons on Tuesday evening.
