A draft resolution demanding a truce in northwestern Syria was rejected during a UN Security Council meeting in New York City on Thursday, with Russia and China casting their veto.
Russia and China cast their veto on the resolution advanced by Kuwait, Belgium and Germany, which saw 12 votes in favour and one abstention.
Russian Permanent Representative Vasily Nebenzya motivated the veto by stating that "the content of the draft and the course of the work on it is a clear indication of the real objectives of our colleagues. Which is to save the international terrorists that are entrenched in Idlib from their final defeat and to free those who are guilty of what is happening in Idlib."
