The lower chamber of Poland's Parliament approved an amendment to a controversial bill, which forced Supreme Court judges into early retirement, after a voting session in Warsaw on Wednesday.
The motion passed with 215 in favour, 161 against and 24 abstensions in the 460-member lower house of parliament.
The government submitted the amendment to Parliament on the original court legislation that returns the retirement age to 70 from 65, reinstating judges who had been forced to retire under the previous provisions.
The law, pushed earlier this year by the Law and Justice governing Party, caused a significant rift between Poland’s conservative government and the EU, amid claims Warsaw was conducting a political purge.
