The Cupola, an observatory module of the International Space Station (ISS), captured stunning time-lapse footage from space of the polar 'Aurora' lights above Earth from 7 to 12 September. The Cupola observatory module, integrated in the International Space Station (ISS) after being built by the European Space Agency and finished in 2003, was launched to the space for the first time in 2010. It's main use is to conduct experiments, dockings and observations of Earth. 'Aurora' is a natural light display in the sky seen usually at high latitude regions. It is originated when the magnetosphere is disturbed enough by the solar wind that the trajectories of charged particles in both solar wind and magnetospheric plasma precipitate them into the upper atmosphere. The resulting ionization and excitation of atmospheric constituents emits light of varying colour and complexity. Video courtesy of: http://eol.jsc.nasa.gov/
