Clashes broke out between supporters of the 'left-wing' coalition Antarsya and riot police outside the offices of the European Union (EU) in Athens, Thursday. Antarsya were marching to demand that no austerity deal between Greece and its creditors is agreed and their supporters called for the Greek people to vote 'no' in Sunday's upcoming referendum. The Greek government closed the country's banks on Monday and imposed capital controls on withdrawals until July 6, the day after Greeks are due to vote in the referendum on whether to reject or to accept the bailout terms proposed. The Greek people will hold a referendum on July 5 to decide whether to accept the austerity measures requested by the so-called "troika" (IMF, ECB, EC). The Greek government closed the country's banks on Monday, as well as imposing limits on cash withdrawals until July 6. A 'No' vote by the Greek people would reject new austerity measures that are demanded by Greece's creditors, while a 'Yes' would accept the institutions' conditions for a new Greek bailout package.
