New Research May Help Prevent Blindness Causes By Disease

40 26.05.2015 Инфо

Diabetic retino-pathy is a common complication when high blood sugar levels damage the cells at the back of the eye, known as the retina, which left untreated can cause blindness.
A delicate network of blood vessels supplies the retina with blood, but when these become blocked, leak or grow haphazardly, the light-sensitive retina becomes damaged and is unable to work properly.
Those with diabetes are at a higher risk for these complications.
New research into lab-grown human cells found that blocking two blood vessel growth proteins could offer a new way to treat and prevent this from occurring.
