A spokesperson for the Russian Defence Ministry rejected the accusation that a Russian ballistic missile had hit a hospital in Syria's Idlib, while addressing the press in Latakia on Tuesday.
On Monday, during a visit to Ukraine, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu accused Russia of launching ballistic missiles at a hospital and school in northern Syria.
Major-General Igor Konashenkov refuted the claim, saying the alleged strike from the Caspian Sea would have been impossible for the Russian Navy. “There is not a single ship in the Caspian flotilla which would be able to carry out such a ballistic missile launch," Konashenkov stated.
General Konashenkov went on to say that Turkey itself was continuing cross-border military strikes against the Syrian Arab Army and its allies, saying: “Turkey has been conducting massive strikes with large-calibre artillery systems at Syrian government troops and opposition units at the border.”
General Konashenkov continued his report on recent events regarding Russia’s air campaign in Syria from its airbase in Latakia. He noted that terrorist groups are beginning to turn on themselves with intensified “disputes over control of territory." Some terror groups “are conducting the mass evacuation of their families to the north of the province and towards the Turkish border," he said. The upsurge in activity by militant groups started “after the signing of agreements at the end of the last week on the cessation of hostilities in Syria," Konashenkov added.
Regarding Russia’s air operation, Konashenkov confirmed that “444 sorties engaging 1,593 terrorist targets” were conducted during the last week. Syrian ground forces meanwhile liberated “more than 100 square kilometres” from terrorists in the last 24 alone.
