Hundreds of demonstrators rallied through Downtown San Francisco on Saturday, protesting for justice in the fatal police shooting of Mario Woods.
The protesters marched from Union Square to Super Bowl City, where in the context of the Super Bowl festivities different public events celebrating American football were being held. A large police presence was deployed to keep the protest under control; however the authorities were reportedly not able to prevent the activists from entering the festival grounds.
Police fatally shot 26 year-old African-American Mario Woods in early December during a manhunt, after he was suspected to be involved in a stabbing that had occurred earlier that day. Woods allegedly threatened the officers with a kitchen knife. He was then shot 15 times after refusing to drop his weapon
