07.05.2016
The Brazilian Federal Senate Special Commission approved the process for impeaching Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff after holding a vote in Brasilia, Friday, bringing the Brazilian president one step closer to suspension. The Senate will now vote next week on whether the impeachment trial should proceed.
The opposition voted 15 out of the 21 commission members, claiming a large majority which is set to hasten Rousseff’s departure in the lead up to the official vote on May 11.
Rousseff faces charges that her administration broke government budget laws in order to support her re-election in 2014, of a value said to be worth as much as 1 per cent of the national GDP of Brazil, currently the world's seventh-largest economy.
