The official opening of the 186th Oktoberfest was celebrated in a traditional way with Mayor of Munich Dieter Reiter tapping the first keg and Minister President of Bavaria Markus Soeder tasting the beer, in Munich, on Saturday.
"Considering the importance of coalition talks, Berlin was the capital of Germany yesterday but today it's Munich, because it is the most important festival of the world," said Soeder.
Reiter had the honour to tap the keg and managed to do it with just two hammer blows.
Oktoberfest is marked annually from mid-September to mid-October and is attended by millions of people from around the world.
