11.12.2018
Supporters and opponents of Brexit squared up to each other outside the Houses of Parliament in London on Tuesday, despite Prime Minister Theresa May's earlier decision to postpone a crucial vote on her proposed withdrawal agreement.
Pro-Brexit protesters waved signs claiming that the 17.4 million who voted leave in the 2016 referendum were being ignored, while anti-Brexit protesters waved the flag of Europe.
May embarked on a whistle-stop tour of Europe on Tuesday, meeting with several European leaders and EU officials in an attempt to gain further reassurances from the EU over the Northern Irish backstop agreement.
Since the prime minister delayed the vote on Monday, prominent European leaders, including European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, have reportedly made it clear that the deal is not up for renegotiation.
