02.05.2016
The first cruise ship travelling from the US to Cuba in more than half a century entered Havana Harbour on Monday morning with over 700 passengers on board.
The cruise ship, called Adonia, belongs to the company Fathom, a subsidiary of Carnival Corp, believed to be the world's largest company of its kind. After the Cuban capital, the vessel will travel to Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba. Half a dozen Cuban-Americans were among the people travelling on board.
The trip still presents restrictions for the passengers, as the US only allows its citizens to get on board if they register as part of any of the 12 categories allowed to travel to Cuba. Among those categories are included religious, family, journalistic or cultural reasons, but not tourism with the US tourism block still in place.
