Director of The Federal Narcotics Service of Russia Victor Ivanov presented a current status report of the Russian-Italian anti-drug working group in Vienna, Monday, as part of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND).
Speaking at the press conference, Ivanov stated that Russian drug control service has "international cooperation with 60 countries, at the level of law enforcement agencies, and there are 25 countries, where our experts have accreditation," adding that he encourages cooperation between his agency and the US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
Ivanov went on to say "we had a very effective cooperation, which was highly appreciated by the US Department of State and our foreign ministry... now this cooperation unfortunately decreased because of the sanctions."
Experts at the CND also discussed solutions to ending drug trafficking, as part of the illegal drug trade used to finance terrorism, according to Italian Junior Minister of Justice Cosimo Ferri. Therefore the production, trade and trafficking in illicit drugs can harm international peace and stability in regions like Afghanistan, and it neighbours.
Like its predecessors, the 59th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) is organised by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, kicked off on Monday in Vienna and will commence on March 22, 2016.
