German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited Chisinau on Tuesday as the OSCE Chairperson-in-office, and held a joint press conference with Moldova Prime Minister Pavel Filip after holding a discussion on the Transnistrian conflict.
Steinmeier, who first visited Moldova as the OSCE chief in April, stated that "between my first visit here and today's visit, a lot has progressed," before saying that he was not in Chisinau to just "talk about the Transnistria conflict, but rather to encourage the Moldova government" to carry on with the reforms that have been established in an agreement between the OSCE and Moldova.
During the press conference, Germany's top diplomat also said that the OSCE was "facing tough times" and that he has set himself a goal as the chairperson of the OSCE, "to also take care of the old frozen conflicts, that are not always frozen, as we have seen in Nagorno-Karabakh, so that we look after these as well."
