Over a hundred countries signed a pledge to tackle drug production and addiction worldwide at the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York on Thursday.
US President Trump spoke at the event, thanking member countries for their involvement in the US-led global call to action.
Citing the 2018 World Drug Report, which found a 60% increase in global drug usage from 2000-2015, Trump argued that there was never a more urgent time to combat the drug trade.
"The call is simple: reduce drug demand, cut off the supply of illicit drugs, expand treatment and strengthen international co-operation. If we take these steps together we can save the lives of countless people in all corners of the world."
President Trump will address the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.
