German Toy Magnate Behind Playmobil Plastic Figurines Has Died

Horst Brandstätter, head of the German toy company that produces Playmobil, has died at age 81.
The company, which makes plastic toy figurines and play sets, announced he passed away on June 3.
Known as Herr Playmobil, the toy-magnate joined the family firm in 1952 as a mold maker; his two uncles managed the company at the time.
Under Brandstätter’s leadership, the company, based in southern Bavaria, initially made just three models – a knight, a workman and a Native American.
